Christmas Lights and Family Nights

09:26

Hi!

So, it’s that time of year again, Christmas (cue either cheers of joy or sighs of despair). Whatever your thoughts, it’s here and it’s happening. Personally, we think this is the best time of year but there’s no judging here if you don’t agree.
These are some ways to get into the festive spirit, if you haven’t already, and how to deal seeing all your family that you possibly only see once a year.

Getting festive.
This is the fun part. To try to get into the Christmasy mood, get a Christmas tree, this is kind of obvious but it makes all the difference. Start buying presents and then coming up with creative wrapping ideas, this’ll get you into a giving spirit and you’ll feel happier knowing that you’re showing your gratitude to friends and family. Give Christmas lights (fairy lights) a try, personally we love having them all year round, they’re just so pretty and seriously magical but if you don’t why not get some nice ones and hang them around your room.Another fun, festive activity to do is baking Christmas goods like mince pies, shortbread (in Christmas tree shapes of course) or gingerbread. And if the baking and eating doesn’t get you into the spirit, chuck on a Santa hat and go giving them to your neighbours. We’re not joking.

Dealing with family.
Lots of people love seeing their extended family over Christmas, having laughs and talking about old times. That’s nice, but it’s not for everybody. Sometimes we can be kinda anti-social and if you’re stuck with some annoying family members, these things can get kinda boring. Some ways to deal with this are… Find three or so of the most interesting things that have happened to you over the last year and really milk them out. Just repeat those things to every family member you meet. And conversation starters, done. Be nice. Laugh and smile when necessary and have a good exit line. If you really aren’t in the mood for talking with family (well first of all, just admit that you can’t escape some of the yearly conversations: how’s school? Have you made friends? Is the work hard? What subjects do you enjoy? And then awkward silences) try not to make too much eye contact or look lonely when you’re sitting on your own. I find that if you look engrossed in something (even if it’s just the food and, hey, we do get engrossed in our Christmas food) people will be like “Oh, she’s busy, I won’t start a conversation with her.”

So we hope these helped with your Christmas dilemmas and you're now feeling psyched and ready to go for the holiday season. Remember it’s the most wonderful time of the year!
